Masanori Aoyagi is a Doctor of Literature with a doctorate from the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo. He is Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, member of The Japan Academy of Sciences, Director of the National Museum of Western Art, and President of the National Museum of Art (Independent Administrative Institution). Publications include “Kodai-toshi Roma” (the ancient city Rome), “Roma Teikoku” (Imperial Rome) “Itsuraku to Hoshoku no Kodai Roma” (Ancient Rome of indulgence and satiation” ) and “Bunka Rikkoku-ron” (theory of a nation built on culture).
